Why I Blog

Blogging's a weird concept. Being able to have free rein on a little piece of the internet designed and adapted especially for and by only you is such an amazing thing. People can tell you you're wrong and disagree with the things you say and write but you're still putting your voice out there, to sometimes hundreds of thousands of people. The reason I got in to blogging is simple. I love to write. You know when actors get asked how they realised they were good at acting and they always mention their drama teacher from school or college? Well, it's like that for me too only with my love of the written word and a fantastic english teacher who told me I COULD write and more importantly I could do it well...EUREKA MOMENT!

Freedom of speech, for me, is the absolute best thing we have. We can do so much with it even if it is 'just' writing about your 'outfit of the day' or Alexander Wang for H&M - you're still being heard no matter how small you think the subject is. I blog because I can. The power we have is getting stronger and we can put ourselves online in our own little bubble. My 2014 didn't start well with my auntie passing away in January and one of the things that's helping me through this awful grief still is my blog. It's my haven, my sanctuary, my little bit of scheduled fun on the side of reality and I know my auntie (who had no interest in fashion by the way - we were totally different in that sense) would be so proud of what I am now achieving.

Like everything in life, blogging comes with some downfalls too. It's a hobby that can take over your life if you let it. I fell into that trap when I started in March this year and as it was starting to accelerate with popularity my anxiety was growing with me thinking "must write more, must write more." But now I've calmed down and have organised a schedule that works for me so it's still fun. I post monday, wednesday and friday if you were wondering. Being part of this online community can also bring out the bad side of you you never knew existed - becoming competitive with other bloggers and comparing your blog to theirs. I now know that's silly but it can still peep out of me at times but I then remember everyone is unique even fellow fashion bloggers I follow have totally different styles to me and so there's room for us all.

I've always been a creative person and working in a retail environment doesn't allow me to express that - this space right here does though and I'm loving my blogging journey so far! I can't wait to see where it takes me with you all following me.

Keep up to date with me via:

  1. I absolutely love this post! It's so great having a little space to call your own, to talk about the things that you want to talk about. Granted, it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but at least it's yours. My blog has also came to me as an escape from reality, when things have just got a little bit too tough and I've needed to unwind. This kind of thing, blogging and social media, is what I want to do with my life, and, as strange as it sounds, I feel like being on the English course that I'm on, isn't pushing me towards that. So by setting up my blog, I feel like I've set myself in the right direction. Sorry for this big rambly comment, this post has just made me reflect a lot on what I have! I hope it resonates with others as much as it has with me x
