I don't think there's more of a perfect place to take your mum when she visits you in London than Kensington Palace and its beautiful gardens. I remember when I was younger and mum talking about Princess Diana - if memory serves me right she even had a book on the 'People's Princess' - so thought it would be apt that while mum was down in London with me we take a look around. The vast grounds have been kept well and while there's small signs of wear and tear here and there inside the Palace it's still quite a sight to behold. You go through various eras of the Royal Family so we walked around chronologically starting with the early years of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert making our way through to modern times - stopping for tea along the way.

The cafe there is stocked full of delightful sandwiches and amazing cakes, I picked up a cream tea while mum opted for a gigantic slice of (what looked like) homemade carrot cake. Once we were fed we made our way to the modern section of the Palace, and my favourite part - filled with old magazines that the Queen, Princess Diana and Kate Middleton have all graced the covers of. As well as that there's a nod to the fashion the Royal women wore right up to Princess Diana's green tux-style dress that was iconic at the time, and still is. If you're mum (or you, or even a friend) is a fan of the Royal family and wants to learn more I definitely recommend going to the Palace! Not forgetting the beautiful gardens which, even though you can't fully go into some areas, are still amazing to walk around.
