If you follow me over on Instagram then you will have already seen me banging on about my weekend and how flipping great it was, but a couple of Instagram posts just isn't enough! So, I thought I would compact it all into a little post about the things I saw, learnt (and drank) at Stylist LIVE this past weekend...

I was kindly invited to Stylist LIVE this year to be treated to the VIP experience and, after last year being so great, I knew to say "yes please" straight away. As soon as I hand over my ticket and step into the huge Business Design Centre in North London I'm instantly handed a coupon for a yummy glass of Chandon wine and greeted by the lovely Stylisters eager to help me and my bemused looking friend find our way around. My friend Larissa and I hadn't booked to go to Stylist's fashion director Alexandra Fullerton talk all about how to dress like a fashion director but, as luck would have it we managed to get in...

Alexandra Fullerton: How To Dress Like A Fashion Director
  • You should have three key words to describe your style - this can be from a decade, a particular trend or anything that best connotes how you dress. My words (in case you were wondering) are casual, 90s and girly grunge.
  • Once you have these three words the way you dress and pick out what to wear becomes a little easier, it's all about creating a balance with what you wear - try to balance the 'drama'. For example, feel free to wear leopard print and tartan together but break it up with a hit of denim in between.
  • You can find trends 1) on the high street 2) with the designer brands 3) vintage stores and 4) through undiscovered graduate designers.
  • The best way to dress is to be stylish and add elements of yourself to any outfit - dress like you're going somewhere 'fabulous' even if you're going to the supermarket.
  • The magic formula is being able to create the high/ low mix, so piece something amazing that is seriously eye-catching with something plainer.
Once we'd finished learning the ins and outs of how to dress fabulously we made our may back down to the main area to get our free glass of delicious Chandon fizz. We met our friend and started having a wander, obviously stopping for photo's in front of the fun booths, taking a look at some of the brands that were there (Lancome, Urban Decay, Clarins and more!) I was then invited to view the catwalk show and take a look at the VIP area with a few other bloggers and Insta-famous lovelies. Escorted by the lovely Fiona I made my way to the VIP Secret Garden, a place that felt seriously exclusive and seriously secretive! I was handed my VIP lanyard and opted for one of the free cocktails on offer, taking a pew ready for the Stylist catwalk show, want to know the key trends they picked out? Keep reading...

Stylist Catwalk 5 Top Trends

  1. INTERGALACTIC: star motifs, ethereal space, glitter, silver, metallics.
  2. VELVET GOLDMINE: rich colours, draping fabrics, texture.
  3. SPORTWEAR: Fila and ADIDAS, sweatshirts, stylish tracksuit bottoms, statement kicks.
  4. THE NAVY COAT: structured and loose, military, puffer jackets.
  5. SPICE WORLD: warm tones, mustard, brown boots,

After the show I decided to take a look around the VIP area (with my amazing free goodie bag in tow filled with some great brands) which had everything you could possibly want and need. There was a spa to get free manicures, pedicures and other treatments, mac and cheese stall, illustrator, photo booth, bar and a lot of seating areas for you to just chill out. Once I'd tried my third (?) cocktail I rejoined my friends and had a proper look around the stands - yes, I made a beeline for the Lead The Walk stand with the most adorable mini Dachshund named Bruno. Other stands that really stood out were Wolf and Whistle, Bluebella, Cardology, Liz Earle, Old English Company, Miss POM POM and so many more! We then headed to a talk we had booked to see and one that I knew I was going to love being a fan of this inspirational woman for so long...

How To Be The Next Jo Malone

  • Within the first day of Jo Malone opening she was offered one million dollars for her business, five years later she had offers in excess of 20-30 people but in the end sold to Leonard Lauder of Estรฉe Lauder.
  • In 2006 she finally departed from her brand Jo Malone facing a battle with breast cancer.
  • Five years later (after the lockout period) Jo creates her new brand Jo Loves not knowing what to expect and whether people would take to it as much as her previous brand.
  • She was only able to start a brand from scratch again after retraining her nose to become more sensitive to smells, it finally came back to her after a walk on the beach with husband Gary.
  • To create a product Jo says you need persistence, resilience and, of course, creativity!

After this amazing talk (yes, I'm now going to be purchasing her new book that has a page that smells insanely good) we were able to wangle our way into a cocktail masterclass with yet more free alcohol to try out! And with that ending, our day had also come to a close so it was time to grab some munch to soak up all that alcohol and say goodbye to Stylist LIVE for one more year, no doubt I'll be saying hello again in 365 days.
